I think inevitability is a construct of hindsight. It may seem inevitable that I would meet my wife, have my kids, etc. But was it? Or was it the consequence of choices I made and she made?
Especially as you get older it's easy to look at the events in your life as inevitable since our minds are wired to look for patterns, for cause and effect. Same with history; it's easy to see the outcomes of, say, wars or social movements as "inevitable" but the outcome didn't seem so certain to those living through it.
I’ll tell you what’s inevitable, but even that has conditions.
On the one hand I may awaken to a world decimated by nuclear war, with hours, perhaps days to live. My pets starving will be among the least of the horrors.
On the other hand, on all the days of my life the sun will come up, the rain will fall and the sun will shine, and I will praise God for the difference.
Inevitable is for what I will thank Him; the life I’ve lived or the life I am living.

So yeah, nothing is inevitable.

Yes.
Damn if Aretha Franklin didn't pop into my skull. Think.
No connection. Aretha probably made money with that expression, too.
