A phenomenon I also have pondered. The one I notice is that, whenever there is a broken down vehicle on the side of the road there is always a big semi coming the other way that will pass me at the exact instant I am alongside the broken down vehicle. It never fails, even if I adjust my speed to try to make it not happen.

I sometimes think, not of gremlins, but of the non-descript agents in Phillip K. Dick's "Adjustment Team" (which was made into the movie "The Adjsutment Bureau."). Not demons, not angels...just bland passionless bureaucratic non-entities. They'd have to be.

Spot on with the tool thing. I worked in my dad's machine shop at various points all through school. The only addition I'd make to your hypothesis is one's ability to pawn their gribble off onto someone else. "Go grab a three force," Dad would tell me. I'd dig in both wrench drawers for five minutes (not my first rodeo) and come back empty handed. "Did you try the wrench drawer? In the toolbox?" Of course I did, Dad. "Did you try the other toolbox?" Yeah. Then he would pull himself off the ladder or out from under the truck and find the 3/4ths wrench in a moment where I had seen only sawdust. Thanks for gremlins, Dad
