The longer I live, the stranger things get. I mean, really. Life used to be so simple. Simple has changed.
It all started out, so easy. I walked to elementary school and stopped occasionally at Jodons’ Store, carved out of the front of Mrs. Jodon’s small house. She sold Penny candy that was actually a penny. Sodas were 7 cents if you drank it there and left the bottle, a dime if you carried it away. The dog followed us into town but turned back when we got to the schoolyard.
Oh sure, people were still people; Jeffy was an asshole, Jimmy's little brother always needed his nose wiped and for some reason, followed me around. But nobody tried to pick up anybody else’s kids, and for all we knew, President Eisenhower was elected in a real, honest election.
Nobody who was alive then recognizes this country now. The differences are almost indescribable. So, what happened?
Well, most probably, you did.
Congratulations.
Good job. 😁
I'm one of those people who hasn't changed my opinions or principles, but suddenly I'm a stranger in a strange land where as before I was like most everyone else.
If I didn't change, then something else did...in the words of the Wallflowers, "I ain't changed, but I know I ain't the same."
Nothin' is what it was.
Nothin'.
